Historical background

POSTUMIA

(131 BC)

The consuls for the year 131 BC are Publius Licinius Crassus Mucianus and Lucius Valerius Flaccus. Rome is still suffering the repercussions of the assassination of the tribune Tiberius Gracchus (The Gracchi) two years earlier. The slave revolt was bloodily crushed in 132 BC and Sicily reorganized under the "lex Rupilia". In 131 BC, the "lex Tabellaria" or "tabellar law" of the tribune Papirius Carbo aims to introduce the secret ballot for the election of the Comices and the possibility of re-electing the tribunes of the plebs.
