Obverse translation : "Imperator Cæsar Postumus Pius Felix Augustus", (L’empereur césar Postume pieux heureux auguste).

Reverse legend : DIANAE LV-CI-FERE (SIC !).
Reverse description : Diane, tête radiée marchant à droite, portant des deux mains une torche allumée, le carquois sur l’épaule; à ses pieds à droite, une biche.
Reverse translation : “Dianae Luciferæ”, (À Diane qui apporte la lumière).

Commentary


Rubans de type 3. Ptéryges bouletées sous le paludamentum. Type avec LV-CI-FERE au lieu de LVCI-FERAE. C’est l’un des antoniniens les plus rares du règne de Postume. Manquait dans ROME XXIX.

Postume seizes the purple by eliminating Salonin, son of Gallien, of whom he had custody. He reigns over Gaul, Brittany and Spain. Did Postume toy with the idea of conquering the Roman Empire? Gallien, twice, will try to reconquer the "pars occidentalis" of the Empire, without success. Postume will remain in power for nine years, before perishing assassinated for having refused the sack of Mainz, a city which supported Lélien.
