PRINCIPALITY OF CHÂTEAU-PORCIEN - PHILIPPE III DE CROY
(1551-1595)
Philippe III de Croy was the fourth prince of Chimay between 1551 and 1595. On May 1, 1582 he married Jeanne, lady of Comines and Halluin, with whom he had a son: Charles de Croy born in 1560, one of the characters who, under the dukes of Burgundy and the kings of Spain, played a considerable role in the political and economic life of the Netherlands. Philippe III de Croy owns many territories including the duchy of Arschot, the principality of Château-Porcien, the counties of Beaumont and Seninghem, the lordships of Avesnes, Lillers, Quiévrain, Esclaibes, Beveren, the free lands of Fumay and Returned.
