Historical background

KINGDOM OF PERSIS - ARTAXERXES II

(1st century BC)

La Perside seems to have played an important role in the history of the Achaemenid Empire. Persepolis was one of the capitals of the Empire. La Perside kept a certain autonomy under the Macedonian domination which was perpetuated under the Parthians. The founder of the dynasty seems to have been Bagadate at the end of the 3rd century BC. It seems that Darius II who is the contemporary of the Parthian kings Orodes I, Sinatruces and Phraates III (c. 80-57 BC- C.) was the son of Autophradates II, father of Artaxerxes II (c. 57 BC) and Oxathres (57-38 BC).
