Historical background

PARTHIAN KINGDOM - ARTABANUS II

(10-38)

Artaban does not belong to the main branch of the Arsacids. He revolted in 10 AD and succeeded in driving out Vonones (8-12), the son of Phraates IV, exiled to Rome for nearly twenty years and who had allied himself with his jailers in order to conquer Armenia . The reign of Artabanus was only a series of skirmishes and wars against the Romans to whom he disputed Armenia. He managed to impose two of his sons on the Armenian throne who were both successively eliminated. The end of his reign was clouded by palace plots.
