Historical background

PARTHIAN KINGDOM - VOLOGASES III

(105-147)

Vologese III succeeded Pacorus II. He had to face the Parthian campaign of Trajan (115-117) and had to flee his capital Ctesiphon which was taken and ravaged. He had to accept a Roman protectorate over Armenia and the carving up of the kingdom with the creation of the Roman provinces of Adiabene and Mesopotamia. He had to face the usurpations of Osroes I (109-129) and Phartapapastes (116). He died during the reign of Antoninus Pius (138-161).
