Ce gros tournois est frappé sur un flan large et est recouvert d’une patine grise de médaillier. Reliefs nets, ce qui est assez rare pour ce type monétaire

Commentary


Ce type est souvent attribué à tort à Charles IV le Bel et il faut le restituer à Charles IV de Luxembourg. Ce gros n'a pas été frappé pour le Luxembourg, mais pour Charles IV en tant que roi des Romains.

HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - CHARLES IV OF LUXEMBOURG KING OF THE ROMANS

(1347-1355)

Charles IV (1319-1378), the son of Jean II the Blind killed at the Battle of Crécy (1346), is King of Bohemia and Count of Luxembourg (1346-1378), King of the Romans (1347/1355) at the death of Ludwig IV of Bavaria and Holy Roman Emperor (1355-1378). He is the son-in-law of Charles de Valois because he married Blanche de Valois (+1348), the brother-in-law of Philippe VI de Valois and of the future Jean II le Bon by his sister Judith (+1349). He is the uncle of Charles V. He married four times and his son, Wenceslas IV (1361-1419), succeeded him in 1378.
