Historical background

SASANIAN - SASANIAN KINGDOM - KHOSROW I

(531-579)

The reign of Chosroes I (Xusro I), son of Kavad I, marks the peak of Sassanid power. He was one of the most indomitable enemies of the Byzantines and of Justinian I in particular (527-565) but, in 532, the Eternal Peace was signed because Justinian needed to have his hands free to reconquer the West. Chosroes beautifies Ctesiphon. His son Hormizd IV (579-590) succeeded him.
