Obverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.

Obverse description : Soleil timbré d’un visage, les signes du zodiaque entre chaque rayon. Représentation de personnages féminins dans des cartouches tout autour dont une sirène, une femme tenant une gerbe de blé (Cérès).

Reverse

Reverse legend : SOC. / CHEM. / INDVSTR. / OPTIME / MERENTI.

Reverse description : Légende en 5 lignes dans un médaillon entouré de branches de laurier.

Commentary

Il s’agit d’une haute distinction offerte par la “British Chemical Society” à William Crookes en septembre 1912.
William Crookes (1832-1919) est un chimiste et un physicien britannique. Il a donné son nom à la technique des tubes de Crookes, grâce auxquels ont été découverts par exemple les rayons X. Il est également connu pour des études concernant les médiums. Il a découvert le protactinium et le thallium.
