Historical background

SENONES (Area of Sens)

(1st century BC)

The Senons were the most powerful people in Gaul after the Arverni. Their vast territory extended between the south of Champagne and the north of Burgundy. The Parisii, before being independent, were under their protection. The capital of the Senons was Sens (Agedincum). They are often cited by Caesar in the Commentaries (II., 2), (V., 54 and 56), (VI., 2, 3 and 44), (VII., 4, 11, 34, 56, 58 and 75).
