Historical background

SEVERUS II

(1/05/305-07/307)

Augustus

Severus II was named Caesar on May 1, 305. After Constance's death, he automatically became Augustus, but was challenged by Constantine and Maxentius. He went to Italy at the beginning of 307, but was besieged in Ravenna by Maximian Hercules who came to rescue his son Maxentius. He surrendered to Maximian on the condition of his life and was later executed.
