Exemplaire sur un flan large et ovale, parfaitement centré des deux côtés. Portrait de Sévère II de haut relief, bien venu à la frappe. Revers de frappe molle. Patine marron foncé, légèrement granuleuse

Obverse translation : "Flavius Valerius Severus Nobilissimus Caesar", (Flavien Valère Sévère très noble césar).

Reverse legend : GENIO POPV-LI ROMANI/ S|F// PTR.
Reverse description : Genius (le Génie) debout à gauche, nu jusqu’à la ceinture, le manteau sur l'épaule gauche, coiffé du modius, tenant une patère de la main droite et de la gauche une corne d'abondance.
Reverse translation : “Genio Populi Romani”, (Au Génie du Peuple romain).

Commentary


Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. Cuirasse et épaulière cloutées. Ptéryges larges. Petit pan de paludamentum sur l’épaule. Génie vêtu de l’himation.

Augustus

Severus II was named Caesar on May 1, 305. After Constance's death, he automatically became Augustus, but was challenged by Constantine and Maxentius. He went to Italy at the beginning of 307, but was besieged in Ravenna by Maximian Hercules who came to rescue his son Maxentius. He surrendered to Maximian on the condition of his life and was later executed.
