Exemplaire sur un petit flan épais, ovale et irrégulier, court sur les légendes. Très belle tête de Zeus. Revers de haut relief, court sur la tête de l’aigle. Belle patine vert olive

Obverse description : Tête laurée et imberbe de Zeus Hellanios à gauche, les cheveux courts, un foudre vertical derrière la tête ; grènetis circulaire.
Obverse legend : [DIOS ELLANIOU]

Reverse description : Aigle debout à gauche sur un foudre, les ailes ouvertes ; dans le champ à gauche, une lettre.

Commentary


Sur notre exemplaire, nous avons un petit foudre derrière la tête. Ce type avec la tête à gauche semble plus rare.

Hiketas

Hiketas, strategist, succeeded Agathokles and became tyrant of Syracuse. He defeated Phintias, tyrant of Agrigento, at Hyblaion, but was in turn defeated by the Carthaginians at Terias and expelled from Thonion in 279 BC before being driven out of Syracuse and replaced by Pyrrhus (Diodorus of Sicily , 21, 16, 6; 18.1; 22, 2, 1; 7, 2-3); [KP. 1145, lines 17-49].
