Charles XI (24/11/1655-5/04/1697) is the son of Charles X Gustave and Éléonore d'Holstein-Gottorp. His father had ascended the throne only after the abdication of Christine of Sweden in 1654. Charles XI succeeded his father in 1660 at the age of five under the regency of his mother. He was crowned in 1675 and married in 1680 Ulrica Éléonore of Denmark (1656-1693) who gave him seven children, including Charles XII who succeeded him in 1697.
