Historical background

SWITZERLAND - CANTON OF ZÜRICH

In the 18th century, Zurich was a hotbed of intellectual development, a center of literary and spiritual revival. During the Revolution, the Austro-Russians were beaten twice, on June 4 and September 25 and 26, 1799 by General Masséna. The canton of Zurich is part of the Helvetic Republic in 1798 and of the Confederation until 1813.
