Obverse description : Munatius Plancus debout en armure tenant un écu inscrit de la devise romaine SPQR.

Reverse description : Armes de Bâle dans un écu soutenu par deux griffons de part et d’autre.

Commentary

Ce type de demi-thaler avec Munatius Plancus ne fut frappé à Bâle qu’en 1571. Munatius Plancus était proconsul de Gaule à la fin de la République romaine. Il fonda une colonie à proximité de l’actuelle ville de Bâle. Il est de ce fait reconnu comme le fondateur historique de la ville de Bâle.
