SYRIA - SELEUKID KINGDOM - SELEUKOS III CERAUNUS

(226-223 BC)

Alexander, who took the name of Seleucus III on his accession to the throne, succeeded his father, Seleucus II Callinikos, who died following a fall from a horse. The future Antiochus III, brother of Seleucus III was sent to govern the eastern provinces. Seleucus III tried to recover part of Asia Minor which Attalus I, king of Pergame had seized. Seleucus was defeated by Attalus and was assassinated by officers of his staff in 223 BC.
