Historical background

SYRIA - SELEUKID KINGDOM - SELEUKOS VI NIKATOR

(97-94 BC)

Seleucus VI Nicator is the son of Antiochus VIII Grypus. After the assassination of his father in 96 BC, he formed an army in Cilicia and marched on Antioch which he captured from Antiochus IX Cyzicene. The city was finally taken over by Antiochus X, the son of Cyzicene, and Seleucus VI fled to Mopsus where he died in 94 BC, assassinated or committed suicide. His two surviving brothers, Antiochus XI and Philip Philadelphus, continued the fight.
