Commentary


Si nous ne savions pas que nous sommes en présence d'une drachme, nous pourrions penser avoir affaire à un petit lingot. Une appellation locale de cette monnaie serait "la drachme à la paire de fesses" ; ces monnaies sont étudiées par l'université de Pau.
Cet exemplaire a la particularité d’avoir un beau globule bien net au droit.

The Tarusates like the Sotiates or the Elusates were submitted by Publius Licinius Crassus, lieutenant of Caesar, son of Crassus in 56 BC. This small Aquitaine people had its territory circumscribed around Tartas in the current department of Landes between Dax and Mont-de-Marsan. Sources: Caesar (BG. III, 23 and 27).
