The Tarusates like the Sotiates or the Elusates were submitted by Publius Licinius Crassus, lieutenant of Caesar, son of Crassus in 56 BC. This small Aquitaine people had its territory circumscribed around Tartas in the current department of Landes between Dax and Mont-de-Marsan. Sources: Caesar (BG. III, 23 and 27).
