Obverse description : Buste diadémé, drapé et cuirassé de Théodose II à gauche vu de trois quarts en avant (A'1a) ; diadème perlé.
Obverse translation : "Dominus Noster Theodosius Pius Felix Augustus", (Notre seigneur Théodose pieux heureux auguste).

Reverse legend : GLORIA - ROMANORVM// *|-// CON.
Reverse description : Théodose II debout de face, la tête tournée à gauche, nimbé, vêtu militairement, tenant un globe de la main gauche et levant la main droite.
Reverse translation : “Gloria Romanorum”, (La Gloire des Romains).

Commentary


Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. Cabochon gemmé carré de fermeture du diadème. Fibule d’attache avec trois pendants perlés. Ptéryges larges et tombantes.

THEODOSIUS II

(01/10/402-07/28/450)

Theodosius II, born in 401, was proclaimed august in 402 at 9 months. After the death of his father Arcadius in 408, the two chancelleries of Ravenna and Constantinople are cold. Honorius would like to reunite the Empire. On his death on August 15, 423, John, secretary to the late Emperor and new august, had a very small series of solidi minted in the name of Theodosius II until November 20, when he was considered a usurper. Jean will finally be captured at the beginning of 425 in Ravenna, mutilated, then executed. Theodosius II will install his cousin Valentinian III as august in Ravenna.
