Obverse description : Buste diadémé, casqué et cuirassé de Théodose II de face, tenant de la main droite la haste qui repose sur l'épaule et de la gauche, un bouclier orné d'un cavalier chargeant à droite (N’a) ; diadème perlé.
Obverse translation : “Dominus Noster Theodosius Pius Felix Augustus”, (Notre seigneur Théodose pieux heureux auguste).

Reverse


Reverse legend : SALVS REI - *PVBLICAES// CONOB .
Reverse description : Théodose II à gauche et Valentinien III à droite assis de face sur un banc, nimbés, vêtus du manteau consulaire, tenant chacun la mappa de la main droite et ensemble une croix de la main gauche.
Reverse translation : “Salus Rei Publicæ”, (La Santé de la chose publique).

Commentary


Sur ce solidus, Théodose II qui a rétabli son neveu sur le trône de son père Honorius partage les fastes consulaires avec Valentinien III.

Theodosius II, born in 401, was proclaimed august in 402 at 9 months. After the death of his father Arcadius in 408, the two chancelleries of Ravenna and Constantinople are cold. Honorius would like to reunite the Empire.
