Historical background

THRACE - PSEUDO-LYSIMACHOS

(3rd century BC)

Coinage in the name and Lysimachos type

The coinage of Lysimachus did not stop with the death of the King in 281 BC but continued to be struck in Thrace and in the workshops of the Black Sea until the 1st century BC. the Greek cities which arrogated to themselves the monetary right, the "lysimaques" which had been used to buy the turbulent Thracian tribes were precociously imitated, even if they had less success than the Alexanders. They were copied in the Black Sea region.
