Reverse description : Croix bouletée au centre, formée de quatre cantons le 2e et le 3e ornés d'une lunule : une esse au 1er canton, un globule aux 2e et 3e, trois points liés à la suite au 4e canton.

GALLIA - SOUTH-WESTERN GAUL - TOLOSATES (Area of Vieille-Toulouse)

(2nd - 1st century BC)

The Tolosates, component of the Volques Tectosages, occupied the region of Tolosa (Old Toulouse). They would have been submitted after 105 BC by Quintus Servilius Cæpio. This episode would be at the origin of the myth of the gold of Toulouse "aurum Tolosanum". Tolosa, their capital was included in the province of Narbonnaise, bordering independent Gaul before the Gallic war. During the Gallic Wars, the Tolosates seem to have remained faithful to the Roman alliance. Sources: Caesar (BG. I, 10; III, 20; VII, 7); Strabo (G. IV, 14).
