Historical background


TROAS - SKEPSIS

(5th - 4th century BC).

Scepsis located on the Scamandre about thirty kilometers from the city of Scamandre, was a city in the heart of the Troad. The city was abandoned in 310 BC to found Antigoneia. After the battle of Ipsos and the death of Antigone, Lysimachus gave it the name of Alexandreia. He authorized before the end of his reign, the inhabitants who wished to return to their city of origin.
