Lamine Bey (1881-1962) was the last bey of the Husseinite dynasty. He acceded to the throne following the dismissal of Moncef Bey by General Giraud on May 14, 1943. The legitimacy of the "Bey of the French" was highly contested by Tunisians and it was not until the death of his predecessor Moncef Bey that he is recognized by the population.
