Historical background

VENDÔMOIS - COUNTY OF VENDÔME - JEAN II

(1202-1207)

The coinage of Vendôme would begin around 960 with Bouchard known as "Bauve-Souris". With Bouchard the Venerable (958-1012) coinage of the Chinon type would begin. The reign of Jean is placed between Bouchard V (1192-1202) and Jean III (1211-1218). The Chinon type evolved under Jean III, no longer having much to do with the prototype but copying the Bléso-Chartrain type. The Tournament Châtel appears on the coins of Jean III. Bouchard VI (1315-1354) sells his monetary rights to Philippe V le Long in 1320.
