Coments on the condition:
Exemplaire sur un petit flan épais bien centré des deux côtés. Très beau portrait de Vespasien de haut relief. Joli revers de style fin. Belle patine vert noir avec une infime concrétion au revers dans le S de S C. Conserve une partie de son brillant de frappe et de son coupant d’origine

Obverse legend : IMP CAES VESP AVG P M T P COS V CENS.
Obverse description : Tête radiée de Vespasien à gauche (O1).
Obverse translation : “Imperator Cæsar Vespasianus Augustus Pontifex Maximus Tribunicia Potestate Consul quintum Censor”, (L’empereur césar Vespasien auguste, grand pontife revêtu de la puissance tribunitienne, consul pour la cinquième fois, censeur).

Reverse


Reverse legend : FELICITA-S - PVBLICA/ S|C.
Reverse description : Felicitas (la Félicité) debout à gauche, tenant un caducée de la main droite et une corne d'abondance de la gauche.
Reverse translation : “Felicitas Publica”, (La Félicité publique).

Commentary


Au droit, la puissance tribunitienne est noté par “T P” au lieu de “TR P”. Il ne s’agit pas d’une erreur, c’est un des rares exemples de cette abréviation.

Vespasien was born on November 17, 9 in Flacrines, near Reate (in Sabine country). He belongs to the Italian municipal bourgeoisie. Aedile in 38, lender in 40, consul in 51, proconsul of Africa in 63, he commanded with Claude the expedition to Brittany. Nero entrusted him with three legions and a proconsular imperium to crush the revolt of Judea in 66. He was proclaimed august on July 1, 69 in Alexandria and his sons, Titus and Domitian, were promoted to Caesar. Vitellius was eliminated on December 20, 69. Titus was directly associated with the government by his father from 71. His reign was devoted to the political and economic restoration of Rome. In 73, he took on the censorship. He died in Reate on June 24, 79.
