Très bel exemplaire sur un flan idéalement centré, éclaté à 6h. Superbe portrait de style fin. Petite faiblesse sur la tête de l’empereur au revers. Jolie patine gris foncé, légèrement tachée au droit

Reverse description : L'empereur debout à gauche, vêtu militairement, surmonté d'une étoile, tenant dans chaque main un labarum chrismé.

Commentary


Poids lourd. Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. Le fait que Vétranion soit lauré, alors que Constance II est diadémé, semblerait confirmer une subordination du premier au second.

Commander in Illyria, Vetranion, is immediately proclaimed after the death of Constans. Constantia, Constance's sister and Hanniballien's widow, convinces him to accept the purple. Magnentius tries to negotiate with Vétranion who finally rallies to Constantius II. He abdicated before the Emperor on December 25, 350 and retired to Prusa in Bithynia, where he died in 356.
