Obverse description : Buste diadémé, drapé et cuirassé d’Arcadius à droite, vu de trois quarts en avant (A’a) ; diadème perlé.

Obverse translation : “Dominus Noster Arcadius Pius Felix Augustus”, (Notre seigneur Arcadius pieux heureux auguste).

Reverse description : Arcadius, vêtu militairement debout à droite, tenant le labarum étoilé de la main droite et un globe de la main gauche, le pied droit sur un captif agenouillé à droite, tournant la tête à gauche ; un chrisme dans le champ à gauche.

Commentary

Poids très léger. Rubans trifide de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. Le diadème se termine par un cabochon carré. Fibule ronde. Ptéryges fines sous le paludamentum. Type rare pour l’atelier de Constantinople. Semble complètement inédit pour la quatrième officine, manque aux ouvrages de référence.
