AUSTRIA - TYROL - FERDINAND I

(1521-1564)

Ferdinand (1503-1564) is the son of Philippe le Beau and Jeanne la Folle, the brother of Charles-Quint. On the death of his grandfather Maximilian of Austria in 1519, he became Archduke of Austria. His brother, who became emperor in 1519, shared his German possessions with him in 1521. He is Count of Tyrol. He married Anne de Bohème (1503-1547), the sister of Louis II, King of Bohemia and Hungary. After the death of his brother-in-law at the battle of Mohacs in 1526, he became king of Bohemia and Hungary. After the abdication of his brother Charles V in 1556, he only took on the imperial title in 1558. He died in 1564 and his son Maximilian II succeeded him..
