Historical background

BURGUNDY - COINAGE IN THE NAME OF CHARLES VI "THE MAD" OR "THE BELOVED"

(1404-1419)

Isabeau of Bavaria was held prisoner in Tours when Jean sans Peur had her freed and installed in Troyes on January 10, 1418, where she entrusted the government to the Duke of Burgundy. The Burgundians seized Paris on May 29, 1418 and massacred the Constable of Armagnac. The Dauphin succeeded in escaping from Paris and took refuge in Bourges. Isabeau entered Paris on July 14, 1418. John the Fearless then wanted to get closer to the Dauphin, but he was assassinated at the Montereau interview on September 10, 1419. His son, Philippe le Bon, approached King Henry V d England and had the Treaty of Troyes signed on May 21, 1420. The Dauphin was disinherited. Catherine, the daughter of Charles VI and Isabeau, marries Henry V who is declared Charles VI's successor. Charles VI retains his throne until his death. Philip the Good expands his territories: this is the price of the Duke of Burgundy's betrayal.
