Coments on the condition:
Exemplaire sur un flan large et irrégulier, ovale, bien centré des deux côtés. Très joli droit, de frappe un peu molle sur les légendes. Joli revers. Magnifique patine de médaillier avec des reflets mordorés et bleutés irisés

Obverse description : Cavalier galopant à gauche, casqué, armé d'une double javeline et d'un bouclier orné d'un astre.
Obverse legend : IW/ APOLLW.
Obverse translation : (Apollo).

Reverse


Reverse description : Taras nu, chevauchant un dauphin à gauche, tenant une grappe de raisin de la main droite et une quenouille de la gauche.
Reverse legend : [ANQ]/ TARAS.
Reverse translation : (Tarente).

Commentary


Poids léger. Sur cet exemplaire, le droit est finement détaillé, le bouclier en particulier est orné d’un astre à six rais centré en coeur. Ce type est l’un des plus courants du monnayage tarentin.

Pyrrhus strategos, King of Epirus

After the "victory" at Ascoli in 279 BC, Pyrrhus, who failed to secure a decisive victory over the Romans, became angry with his Greek and Syracusan allies and was finally defeated at Benevento in 275 BC. J.-C. He retired to Epirus where he was quickly assassinated.
