Serdica (Serdique), the current Sofia was located north of Mount Haemus on the banks of the Oiskos. Civic coinage began under Marcus Aurelius and continued until Gallienus with a very long interruption after the reign of Caracalla. An imperial workshop will be reopened under the Tetrarchy between 303 and 308.
