Historical background

CARIA - MYLASA

(3rd - 2nd century BC)

Mylassa, a city of indigenous origin, was located west of Stratonicea, inland, but not far from the Gulf of Bargylos. It was chosen as the capital of Caria under the satrap Hekatomnos (396-377 BC). But his successor, Mausolus, preferred Halicarnassus and transferred the seat of government there in 367 BC. After this date, the city lost its importance. Eupolemos was one of Cassandra's generals who fought in Caria.
