Coments on the condition:
Exemplaire sur un flan légèrement ovale, bien centré des deux côtés. Très joli droit. Revers bien venu à la frappe de haut relief avec une petite faiblesse sur la tête de Dionysos. Patine gris foncé avec des reflets dorés

Obverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.
Obverse description : Aphrodite, drapée, assise à gauche ; elle est couronnée par Éros, nu et ailé debout derrière sur un cippe.
Reverse
Reverse description : Dionysos Pogon barbu, avec une couronne de vigne, à demi nu, tenant un cep avec une grappe de raisin de la main droite et un thyrse long de la main gauche.
Reverse legend : NAGI/DEWN/ N
Reverse translation : (de Nagidos).
Commentary
Mêmes coins que l’exemplaire du Cabinet des médailles de la BnF (SNG France 2/ 24, pl. 2). Au revers le Z serait un N couché pour l’initiale de Nagidos.
Historical background
CILICIA - NAGIDOS
(4th century BC)
Nagidos was located on the Cilician coast about forty kilometers west of Célendéris. Founded by the Samians, it experienced significant economic development from the end of the 5th century BC. The protective gods of the city were Dionysos and Aphrodite, recalling the Greek origin of the city, without any oriental contribution at the start. Only Pharnabazes seems to have minted coins in Nagidos. The coinage stops at the time of the Macedonian conquest in 333 BC.
