Exemplaire de qualité exceptionnelle pour ce type de monnayage sur un flan très large bien centré des deux côtés avec les grènetis visibles. Droit de haut relief, finement détaillé. Revers de toute beauté où tous les détails des deux animaux sont bien visibles. Magnifique patine de médaillier avec des reflets mordorés, légèrement granuleuse au droit. Conserve l’intégralité de son brillant de frappe et de son coupant d’origine

CILICIA - TARSUS - MAZAEUS SATRAP

(361-334 BC)

Mazaios had an important command in the second half of the 4th century BC during the reigns of Artaxerxes II (404-359), Artaxerxes III (359-338), Arses (338-336) and finally Darius III Codoman (336-330). He was satrap of Cilicia, then after 351, governor of Trans-Euphratesia. In 334, he was replaced by Arsames. During the capture of Tarsus in 333 BC, Mazaios rallied to Alexander the Great. After the capture of Babylon in 331, he was appointed governor of the region and died in 328 BC..
