CONSIDIA

(57 BC)

In 57 BC Publius Cornelius Lentulus Sphinther and Quintus Cæcilius Metellus are consuls. Caesar campaigns in Gaul. To the victories won over the Helvetians and the Germans of Ariovistus in 58 BC were added those over the Belgians and the Nervians the following year. César took up his winter quarters in Vaison. In Rome, Publius Clodius, the tribune of 58 BC who had opposed the triumvirate of Pompey, Crassus and Caesar was assassinated by Milo during riots which bloodied the Urbs.
