Obverse translation : “Imperator Constantinus Pius Felix Augustus”, (L’empereur Constantin pieux heureux auguste).

Reverse legend : SOLI IN-VI-CTO COMITI/ C|S// PARL.
Reverse description : Sol (le Soleil) radié à demi nu, debout à droite, la tête tournée à gauche, levant la main droite et tenant un globe de la gauche.
Reverse translation : “Soli Invicto Comiti”, (Au compagnon le Soleil invincible).
Commentary
Poids très lourd. Avec son argenture superficielle. Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. Ptéryges larges sous le paludamentum. Traces de frappe incuse au revers. Pour ce type, P. Ferrando a recensé 21 exemplaires dont six en musées.

Augustus
Constantine was born in 274, son of Constance Chlore and Helena. He was named Caesar on the death of his father on July 25, 306 and was proclaimed august on December 25, 307. He married Fausta, the daughter of Maximien Hercule, who gave him five children, three of whom were augusts. The first twenty years of his reign are devoted to imposing himself as the main august against Maximian Hercules, Galerius, Maxentius, Maximin II and Licinius. He is recognized as the first Christian emperor, although baptized only on his deathbed on May 22, 337.
