Obverse description : Buste lauré, drapé et cuirassé de Constantin II César à droite, vu de trois quarts en avant (A*).
Obverse translation : “Imperator Cæsar Flavius Valerius Constantinus Pius Felix Augustus”, (L’empereur césar Flavius Valerius Constantin pieux heureux auguste).

Reverse legend : IOVI CONS-ERVATORI/ -|X/IIM// SMHA.
Reverse description : Jupiter nu, debout à gauche, le manteau sur l’épaule gauche, tenant un globe nicéphore de la main droite et un sceptre surmonté d’un aigle de la main gauche ; à ses pieds, à gauche, un aigle debout à gauche, tournant la tête à droite, tenant une couronne dans son bec et à droite, un captif assis à droite, tournant la tête à gauche, les mains liées dans le dos.
Reverse translation : “Iovi Conservatori”, (À Jupiter le protecteur).

Caesar

Born in February 317 according to the most recent chronology, Constantine the Younger receives on coins the title of Caesar like his half-brother Crispus and his cousin Licinius, as well as the title of Prince of Youth. Constantine II is the eldest son of Constantine I and Fausta. In September 337, he received the "pars occidentalis" from the Empire with subjection to his brother Constans, Constantius II having the "pars orientalis". Very quickly, Constantin and Constans fall out. The eldest is eliminated in April 340.
