During the reign of Abdul-Aziz (Abdülaziz, 1861-1876), the monetary crisis of the state and the uprisings in the Balkans led to the deposition of the sultan by Midhat Pasha, founder in 1868 of the reform movement of the Young Turks. A monetary reform is however undertaken.
