ITALY - PIACENZA - PAOLO III

(13/10/1534-09/11/1549)

On October 13, 1534, then sixty-six years old, Paul III was unanimously elected pope and was consecrated on the following November 3. In 1535 he appointed Michelangelo first architect. In 1538, he attended the interview in Nice between Charles V and François I. It was in 1541, under his pontificate, Michelangelo completed the Last Judgment in the Sistine Chapel. He died on November 9, 1549.
