Ces petits lingots monétiformes furent fabriqués en grande quantité. Cette monnaie ont été frappée entre 1832 et 1858. Cette monnaie est faite d’un alliage constitué de 29,8% d’or et 70,2%.

Since 1616, the Edo or Tokugawa (shogunate) period, Japan was closed to foreigners, except the Chinese and the Dutch. The country then experienced a great period of stability and development.
