Historical background

KINGDOM OF DENMARK - FREDERICK VII

(1848-1863)

Son and successor of Christian VIII, Frederick VII was born in Copenhagen on October 6, 1808. He abolished the absolutism established by Frederick III in 1660 and called the liberals to power. His reign was troubled by the German-Danish conflict over Schleswig-Holstein. He died on November 15, 1863. With him, the elder branch of the royal house of Denmark died out.
