Exemplaire sur un flan large, irrégulier, bien centré avec les grènetis visibles. Beau portrait de Licinius Ier. Très joli revers de style fin. Patine marron

Obverse description : Buste lauré et cuirassé de Licinius Ier à droite drapé sur l’épaule, vu de trois quarts en avant (B*01).
Obverse translation : “Imperator Licinius Pius Felix Augustus”, (L'empereur Licinius pieux heureux auguste).

Reverse legend : GENIO - POP ROM/ T|F// ATR.
Reverse description : Genius (le Génie) debout à gauche tourelé, le manteau sur l'épaule gauche, tenant une patère de la main droite et une corne d'abondance de la main gauche.
Reverse translation : “Genio Populi Romani”, (Au Génie du Peuple romain).

Commentary


Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. Cuirasse et épaulière cloutées. Ptéryges larges. Les lettres T|F pourraient être les intiales de “Temporum Felicitas” (les Temps heureux). C’est l’une des dernières utilisations tardives du type GENIO POP ROM qui disparaît ensuite définitivement du monnayage.

LICINIUS I

(11/11/308-09/324)

Licinius I was proclaimed august directly following the conference of Carnuntum, on November 11, 308. In 313, after the rescript of Milan, he married Constantine's half-sister, Constantia. In 316 a first war took place between Licinius and Constantine. It ends with the death of Valens and the signing of a peace between the two augusts. On April 1, 317, three Caesars were created: Crispus, Constantine II and Licinius II. A second war broke out between Constantine and Licinius in 321. It ended with the decisive defeat of Chrysopolis in 324 and the deposition of Licinius, exiled to Thessalonica before being executed the following year..
