Obverse description : Écu écartelé, aux 1 et 4 de Palatinat, aux 2 et 3 de Bavière, orné de cuirs, accosté de 8-2.

Obverse translation : (Ernest, duc de Bavière, évêque de Liège, duc de Bouillon et comte de Looz).

Reverse

Reverse legend : RVDO. - II. ROM - IM. DE-CRETO.

Reverse description : Croix fleuronnée coupant la légende ; un cercle en cœur cantonné de quatre trèfles et contenant une aigle bicéphale.

Reverse translation : (Rodolphe II, empereur du Saint-Empire par décret).

Commentary

Les ernestus doivent leur appellation au nom latin de l'émetteur (Ernest : Ernestus en latin). L'atelier de Maeseyck frappa des ernestus seulement en 1582 et 1583. Les monnaies issues de cet atelier se reconnaissent notamment par la présence d'un gland en début de légende du droit.
