Historical background

LIVIA

(58 BC - 29 AD)

Augustus married Livia in 38 BC Livia Drusilla was the daughter of Livius Drusus Claudianus and Alifida. She was born on January 30, 58 BC. At sixteen, she married Tiberius Claudius Nero, with whom she had two sons, Tiberius and Nero Drusus. She divorced her husband in 39 BC when she was pregnant with her second child to marry Octave, the future Augustus. After fifty-two years of marriage, the emperor preceded her in the tomb on August 19, 14. Livia survived him fifteen years and died in 29 at the age of 87. Suetonius depicts her as deceitful and upstart, having done everything to secure the throne for her son Tiberius..
