Historical background

MACEDONIA - MACEDONIAN KINGDOM - PERDICCAS II

(454-413 BC)

Perdiccas II is the son of Alexander I (495-454 BC) to whom he succeeded. During the Peloponnesian War, he opposed Athens and allied with Sparta. After taking Potidea 430 BC, he traded with Athens. The break came after taking Plataea. Brasidas seized Amphipolis where he died in 424 BC. Perdiccas II did not live long enough to see the fall of Athens. During his long reign, he also had to fight against the Thracian tribes who periodically tried to invade his kingdom..
