Exemplaire sur un petit flan irrégulier, bien centré des deux côtés. Très belle tête de Méduse au droit. Beau portrait de frappe un peu molle au revers avec une patine grise superficielle

Obverse description : Tête de Gorgone de face, grimaçant et tirant la langue, la chevelure plate se termine par des boucles sur le front.

Reverse description : Tête de nymphe à droite avec une chevelure très élaborée.
Reverse legend : N-E/O-P, (Neopolitwn)
Reverse translation : (des Néopolitains).

Historical background
MACEDONIA - NEAPOLIS
(4th century BC)
Neapolis, colony of Thasos was founded in the 6th century BC. The city was located at the foot of Mount Pangea, on the mainland, on the opposite side to its metropolis, Thasos. It thus controlled the routes of penetration towards Thrace. As Neapolis was the natural lock of the very rich mines of Pangea, it passed successively under Athenian control from 463 BC, then under that of Philip II of Macedon during the expedition of 358-357 BC. BC and the capture of Amphipolis.
