Exemplaire sur un petit flan ovale,irrégulier, bien centré. Joli bouclier au droit. Revers bien venu à la frappe avec un petit éclat de métal sur le casque. Jolie patine de collection ancienne

Obverse description : Bouclier macédonien sur lequel est placé horizontalement la massue d’Héraklès tournée à droite et accostée de chaque côté de la légende.

Reverse description : Casque macédonien vu à gauche ; derrière un astre à huit rais centré d’un globule.
Reverse legend : (BE) - (IW)/ (N).

Commentary


Poids léger. Au droit de notre tétrobole, la massue qui orne le bouclier macédonien se retrouve sur l’ensemble du monnayage après la bataille de Pydna. Légende du droit en boustrophédon. Les trois monogrammes du revers peuvent constituer des marques d’émission ou les initiales de magistrats monétaires chargés de vérifier la fabrication.

(2nd century BC)

After the capture of Perseus at Pydna in 168 BC by Paul-Émile, Greece was separated into four republics. After Andriscus' revolt, Macedonia was heavily taxed and treated as a conquered province. Under the Empire, it became a senatorial province.
